Proposals for Western Harbourside will be a hot topic in 2020. We are starting the year with a guided walk on Sunday 5th January starting at 10.30am, led by local landscape architect, Wendy Tippett which was first run in 2016.
The landscape setting to the Cumberland Basin Bridges and Ashton Gate Junction road scheme was designed by eminent landscape architect, Sylvia Crowe (1901 – 1997) for Bristol Corporation, in the 1960s.
Meeting outside the (sadly closed) Rose of Denmark pub in Hotwells, we will explore the areas affected by the current Western Harbourside proposals: including the Cumberland Piazza (with the remains of the café, communal seating and play area); the Look Out on Spike Island; the Avon Bridge; Ashton Meadows and the Wooded Hill. The guided walk is a Crowe pedestrian route, but be prepared for spiral staircases and to take care when walking on the pavement alongside the road.
