A Zoom talk by photographer David Griffiths.
Bristol’s postwar reconstruction led to great changes to the layout of the city and the way it looks. Along with the destruction from the Bristol Blitz, the closure of the city’s docks and economic changes also contributed to the radical restructuring of the city in the 50s, 60s and 70s. Many of the most recognisable buildings in the city’s centre from this period were built in the Brutalist style – using precast concrete, unadorned, and monumental in scale.
This talk will focus on the visual impact of the postwar reconstruction of the city, and in particular the visual aspects of Brutalist buildings.
David Griffiths is a photographer whose work focuses on landscapes, cities and the ways in which people interact with spaces.
