Western Harbour is facing significant change. The City Council is appointing consultants to produce a ‘place making vision’ for the whole area. The Civic Society thinks it’s vital that we understand what is there at the moment, what might be gained from the possible changes – and what might be destroyed without proper understanding of its value.
This will be the second event in our series on Western Harbour. First, we heard about Underfall Yard on 7th April. This time we will learn about Brunel’s ‘other bridge’, the Brunel lock, hydraulics and Ware’s leather works.
Our guide will be local historian and knowledgeable engineer, Geoff Wallis. Geoff was a founder and former MD of Dorothea Restorations where he specialised in the practical conservation of historic metal structures, machinery and mills. Now a consultant in his spare time he has led a voluntary project conserving the Brunel Swivel Bridge and campaigns for its long-term preservation.
Join us for what promises to be another informative, thoughtful and entertaining session.
Members and event notification subscribers will receive an invitation to this Zoom meeting by email. The talk will be at 7.30pm on 21st April 2021.
