Cordwell Developments is currently considering proposals for the redevelopment / refurbishment of these important dock-side sheds on Welsh Back, which are currently in a very poor state of repair, have been vacant and out of use for years. The Cordwell plan would be to refurbish both the sheds to provide café / restaurant / retail units and maintain the character of these important for warehouse buildings.
The Society has responded to say that it would support any commercial use. The priority is to restore the buildings to use. The Society assumes that Cordwell would choose materials for repairs, doors and windows and their surrounds, that are either traditional materials or compatible with the existing materials. The Society strongly supports the retention of the mature tree to the south of M Shed, which is prominent local feature. The Society supports Cordwell’s proposal to collaborate with the Council to improve the surfaces that surround both sheds to create a more unified and less fractured appearance.
