Old town walks: 23rd Feb, 23rd & 30th March, 20th April, 4th and 11th May 2022
Ed Hall will lead an informative walk around the streets of the historic old town area of Bristol. The walk will start at Bristol Bridge and follow the course of the old Norman walls and the Saxon Age stockade where the line of the ancient defences is still evident.
Ed will describe numerous points of interest as he guides the way along the lanes to see many fine historic buildings such as the last remaining combined church tower/city gate, a remarkable Art Nouveau frontage, the oldest city graveyard, and an amazing Venetian-inspired bank frontage. And he will no doubt point out many more visual treats and anecdotes about our important city’s history.
Please meet up at 13:45 for a prompt start at 14:00. The meeting point is at the Merchant Seaman’s Memorial at the Welsh Back end of King Street (BS1 4SS). The walk takes between one and one and a half hours and will end at the Corn Exchange on Corn Street.
Members will be invited to join these walks by email.
