St Mary Redcliffe from Redcliffe Wharf

Study visit to Redcliffe Area, 20th September 2018

Following on from the enjoyable and successful Study Visit to Avonmouth Village last year, David Martyn, Senior Conservation Architect for Bristol City Council will once again lead us on walking tour of the Redcliffe area starting at 2pm covering its history and architecture. It will take approx. 2 – 2 1/5 hours.

Is it time to re-evaluate our relationship with an area of the city centre that’s often overlooked? The walk will focus on the development of Redcliffe in the twentieth century and how planners sought to respond to the historic context. We will pass through some of the area’s historic parts, before taking in some of the Redcliffe estate and, hopefully, reappraising its architectural and social contribution to the city.

Meeting point: St Mary Redcliffe Church – at the steps below the North Porch, Redcliffe Way, Bristol.
