Redevelopment of the New Bridewell Police Station and for Juvenile Courts to provide student accommodation.

This is the current position (May 2014) of the AVTM, which has been a heavily contentious issue.

The Society supports the proposal to demolish and redevelop unattractive buildings on this site and to build new homes. Unfortunately, the Society cannot support the current scheme.

The Society supports this Metrobus scheme. The route through East Street and Bedminster Parade is bus led and does not strike the right balance between the needs of buses and motor traffic and cyclist and pedestrians.

Although the Society would prefer a bridge with a straight simple span, Cubex say that the design could not accommodate the height difference between the Park and Redcliff banks.

The Society welcomes development of flats on the upper floors, which would increase the residential population of the city centre.

The Society’s main concern is the route through East Street and Bedminster Parade, which it says is bus led and falls short of the standards that the Council has achieved in Whiteladies Road.

The City Council has given planning permission to the Bristol Old Vic Trustees to make huge changes to the theatre.
