The Downs and Avon Gorge: 12th February 2025

A fully illustrated talk by Francis Greenacre about the history of the Downs and Avon Gorge (1676-2020). The Downs and the Avon Gorge are perhaps Britain’s most spectacular city park: and the more we know of its past, the better we may manage its precarious future.

One of Bristol’s best known art historians, Francis Greenacre was curator of fine art at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery from 1969 to 1997 and, as a Merchant Venturer, sat on the Downs Committee for many years.

The presentation starts at 7.30pm in the Apostle Room, Clifton Cathedral, Pembroke Road, Bristol BS8 3BX. Tickets cost £5.

Members will be invited by email to book a place.
