Event Notice

Egypt-on-Avon: Bristol, Bath and Ancient Egypt: A zoom meeting at 7.30pm on 17th February 2021

This evening we will look at how ancient Egypt and our local area have interacted over the past two centuries. This ranges from the inspiration for Bristol’s iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge, through public collections to the Bristolian novelist who single-handedly founded the UK’s key bodies for the study of ancient Egypt.

Professor Aidan Dodson has taught Egyptology at the University of Bristol since 1996, and has in the past been Simpson Professor of Egyptology at the American University in Cairo and Chairman of the Egypt Exploration Society – founded by a Bristolian as the UK’s principal body sponsoring archaeological fieldwork in Egypt. He is the author of 25 books, and is the founder of the Egypt Society of Bristol which offers regular lectures on Egyptology (see www.EgyptSocietyBristol.org.uk).
