Zoom event: What’s next at the Galleries? 26th June 2024

Since opening in 1991, The Galleries shopping centre in Bristol’s Broadmead has had its ups and downs, suffering in particular from the 2008 recession and competition from Cabot Circus.

Now there are proposals to demolish The Galleries and replace it with tall blocks of flats (including student flats), a hotel, offices and shops and bars. It will be the biggest redevelopment project since the building of Cabot Circus and, along with the redevelopment of the old Debenhams store, will transform a large swathe of the city centre.

We are grateful to Max Freed (Director, Deeley Freed), Stephen Taylor (Director, AHMM) and Charlotte Burchell (Associate Director, Savills) for offering to speak to us about the scheme that’s been submitted for outline planning approval (to establish the building envelope) – and to answer our questions.

The outline application, being brought forward by Bristol-based developer, Deeley Freed, together with LaSalle Investment Management, is currently open to comments on Bristol City Council’s website under planning reference number 24/01850/P.

Members will be invited by email to join the event.
